TRIBUTE TO MY PRECIOUS MOTHER

Dear mother, my precious mother.
Blessed are thou among the admirable daughters of Eve.
Like a unicorn, you were the purest of souls and the most innocent at heart.
Like a lily planted by the river side, you flourished and blossomed gracefully all seasons while you walked the face of the earth.
So precious and gorgeous like a Pavo cristatus displaying its majestic grandeur in the heart of a paradise.
Fresher than the shadow of tamarind and brighter than the early morning sun you were my first love.
You were a shining star in your teaching career, an activist extraordinaire, a great leader and the best mother I could ever wished for. I must confess, it was indeed a great honor to call you mother.
The 9months I spent in your warm and homely womb were divinely more blissful than the most exquisite hotel in this world.
The heartwarming smile on your face when you first set your eyes on me was a testament to the name your heart called me; Olumide (meaning my great one has arrived). You gave me life as an infant, nurtured me with love as a teenager and shielded me from the storms of life as an adult.
You were my anchor in life’s ocean, the light that brightened up my saddest moments, my biggest motivator, my confidant and most of all, you were my best friend.
You pulled me up when I was down and gave me hope of a better day. Truly, you were the best of all times.
You ignited the fire of my creativity right from a tender age of 5, motivated me to always give voice to my innermost feelings and taught me to never be too timid to express my unique virtues.
Oh, how can I forget the first time you made me recite a beautiful poem you wrote on the assembly ground? As a young boy, I was terrified and became numb on sighting the large crowd that stood before me but the thought of making my precious mum proud did the magic that day. I’m glad I made you proud throughout your lifetime.
You groomed me to be bold, brave and courageous.
You made me believe that nothing is impossible. You’ve always had faith in me and helped me believe that I could become the world greatest me. Eyin ni ejika ti ko je ki aso bo lorun mi.
If only I could turn back the hands of time, I would do anything to make you live eternally but since I couldn’t, I assure you that my love for you will never die and your sweet memories will forever linger in my heart.
Rest in peace is hard to say but since it pleases the Lord to call you home to eternal bliss, I will say Adieu to Iye Omo. Continue to rest eternally on the right hand of thy creator. With tears in my eyes and great pain in my heart, I bid you good night my precious mother. Sun ree oo Iya mi owon.
